BIM is here and everyone needs to know (Caunton)

From Monday the 4th of April 2016 all centrally procured public sector projects in the UK will require the implementation of BIM at Level 2.

Caunton understands the importance of this milestone and also knows that BIM is the digital future of the construction industry.  It will fundamentally change the way the industry works.

All parts of the business need to be ready so that we can play our full part on any project carried out to BIM Level 2 as defined by PAS 1192: 2013.

We have been working hard over the last 12 months preparing for this and have carried out a programme of in-house BIM awareness training.  This has now been delivered to all parts of the business and last week saw our site installation teams receiving their training.

In the photo Richard Beesley, one of our senior structural engineers presents our BIM Awareness training session to our teams erecting project 15019 – Unit 1 at Bardon, a 3,370t Distribution warehouse.

Some people think that BIM is only relevant to people in estimating, design and drawing office that create models but this is not the case.  BIM is a process to create a digital prototype of the building the Client will operate and maintain throughout its life, long after we and the rest of the construction team have finished our work.

Caunton is now working towards gaining formal BIM Level 2 accreditation via external assessment.
