J&D Pierce have been successful in winning the 1600t steelwork package for the new National Performance Centre of Sport for Sports Scotland/Heriot Watt University. The award from Bowmer & Kirkland follows Pierce’s re-engineering of the main feature roof structure which is shaped to mirror the curve of the special free kick taken by Roberto Carlos for Brazil against France. Pierce’s design department has been recently strengthened with another structural engineer and a technician engineer. This gives greater scope for assisting clients with such projects. The new recruits have already benefitted from the knowledge presented within SCI seminars.
Whilst this and other new projects are landing Pierce are adding the final pieces to their 6000t contract at Glasgow Colleges City Campus for Sir Robert McAlpine. Predominantly serviced by their own cranes and access plant this contract also included the installation of all the precast concrete.
Also nearing completion is their work at the Olympic Stadium redevelopment for Balfour Beatty.
With in-house plant and in-house design for permanent and temporary works Pierce have proven successful in winning challenging, heavily engineered, contracts.
