This is not a comment about the Eurocode use of the comma as a decimal separator, but forward notice of a new short course offered by SCI. The four-hour course is for hands-on designers who need less of the theory but want the confidence to complete day-to-day design using the Blue Book. The design task might be a beam, or a column – so the objective is to calculate the ultimate loads and to select an appropriate section. Based on a series of common design tasks, the course will demonstrate how the Blue Book can be used to select steel members, with plenty of reassurance that the process is little changed from BS 5950 despite the unfamiliar language. The calculation of ultimate loads is important as a first step, so this will be covered, but from then on, all the examples will be typical design tasks commonly undertaken by hand – simply supported beams, struts, columns in simple construction and connection components. Each delegate will receive a complimentary copy of the Eurocode Blue Book, and worked examples to serve as a future reference. Visit SCI Courses to see more details or contact |
