P440 – Reuse of pre -1970 Steelwork P440 – Supplement to P427 This supplement contains guidance on the reuse of steel originally used in construction between 1932 and 1970. The guidance recommends the use of modified expressions to verify the axial resistance and lateral torsional buckling resistance of recovered members. The expressions have been developed in order to determine an equivalent resistance no greater than that calculated using the design standards of the time. Recommendations covering welding, impact properties and joint details are included, reflecting the properties of steel used prior to 1970.
