Following a very successful event we are pleased to share presentations from the speakers on the day.
Chris Wise, Senior Director at Expedition
Chris is an award winning designer, recognised as one of the most inventive structural engineers of his generation. He relishes challenging convention and adds value throughout a project’s lifecycle, but is especially valuable at the concept stage where he challenges the brief to get to the crux of a problem – leading to better outcomes for his clients. Chris has a passion for lean and elegant design, and has a design ethos grounded in simplicity.
Chris George, Business Service Director at Trimble
Chris has over 30 years of experience in applying high level software solutions for the structural engineering industry. Since 2003 Chris has been responsible for the business processes and systems associated with enabling and monitoring effective customer support/training and consultancy solutions in the field. Through CSC, Tekla and Trimble Chris’ role has been global, working with regional offices, agents and resellers around the world.
Paul Astle, Principle Engineer, Ramboll
Paul has over nine years of experience in building structures. He has worked on a whole range of challenging projects ranging from niche structural adjustments in existing buildings to £200m new build research buildings. He is particularly interested in innovative approaches and using them to provide more sustainable building solutions, and is fascinated by all things related to buildings, structures and great design.
David Ellison, Head of Business Development, Sigmat
With over 13 years in the modular/volumetric industry & 5 years in the load bearing LGSF industry, David is well placed to voice opinion and experience with offsite manufacturing. During this time and whilst representing the leading specialist in LGSF technology & innovation in terms of turnover & market share in the UK, he has delivered multiple presentations throughout the country to raise awareness & knowledge.
Steve Matthews, Senior Technical Director at WSP UK
Steve has over 40 years of experience working with consulting engineers, steelwork fabricators and research organisations worldwide. His responsibilities include strategic business planning, technical project overviews for UK Bridge teams, and leading main research projects for DFT and Highways England. Actively involved in contributing to the industry, Steve seeks to improve collaboration and efficiency in the Civil Engineering sector through considered application of Lean principles.
David Coyle; Work Winning Manager, Volker Ground Engineering
David is a Civil Engineer with 15 years of experience working as a specialist within the Steel and Concrete Piling industry. Throughout his career, David has always taken pride in offering solutions to Clients’ needs that are innovative, cost effective and safe.
Mark Farmer, Cast Real Estate and Construction Consultancy
Mark is CEO and co-founder of Cast Consultancy. He is a Chartered Surveyor with 30 years of experience in construction and real estate and has become a recognised international commentator on a variety of industry and policy related issues. Mark is a member of the Mayor of London’s Construction Skills Advisory Group, a board member for the Construction Scotland Innovation Centre, a trustee of the Ministry of Building Innovation & Education (MOBIE) educational charity, and is an honorary professor at The University of Salford’s School of Built Environment. Mark authored the highly influential October 2016 independent government review of the UK’s construction labour model entitled ‘Modernise or Die’, and is currently chairing a UK Government working group promoting Modern Methods of Construction in the residential sector.
Bassam Burgan, Director, SCI
Bassam has over 30 years of experience in consultancy and research in the steel construction and petrochemical sectors. His clients include some of the world’s largest steel producers and oil and gas companies. He consults extensively worldwide on developing the market for steel in construction. In the petrochemical field, he has made significant contributions to understanding the consequences of fire and explosion hazards and design against those hazards.
