SCI Annual Event 2023

1730

Designing a structure requires an understanding of materials and structural behaviour, and knowledge of design codes and regulations. To design well also requires an understanding of how things are manufactured and erected, and where the costs lie. On top of all that is the fact that things evolve, hopefully the trend being one of general improvement! In the future, an understanding of how things can be deconstructed will be of growing importance.

At SCI we are at the leading edge of the practical application of advanced techniques and research. This year’s Annual Event will focus on engineering excellence, with an objective to make designers who have a good general knowledge aware of not only the latest developments but also the extensive information and SCI services that are available to help them. We will do this through a series of presentations in combination with a chance to visit the world leading fabrication facilities at our hosts for this year, Severfield Plc.

We have chosen this focus because whilst being competent is always necessary (although unfortunately not always achieved), its emphasis in the Building Safety Act will change how companies and individuals attain and demonstrate competence. SCI can play a big part in this.

The event will include:
• Factory tours
• Technical updates
• Best practise guidance
• Stands from leading industry suppliers
• Transport will be provided to and from Thirsk Station
• Lunch and refreshments will be provided
